Magic Cat Academy 2 is the sequel to one of Google’s most beloved Doodles, released on October 30, 2020 — four years after the original. This time Momo the cat wizard has traded her school’s haunted hallways for the ocean floor, battling ghosts through the five levels of the Deep Sea School. The same satisfying gesture-based spellcasting returns, now with a striking underwater aesthetic and a brand new cast of aquatic ghost designs.

The core mechanic is unchanged from the original: ghosts approach Momo with glowing symbols above their heads, and you defeat them by drawing those shapes with your mouse or finger. Horizontal and vertical lines, V shapes, upside-down Vs, and the crowd-clearing lightning bolt are all back. What changes is the visual language — your enemies are now sea-creature ghosts inspired by crabs, jellyfish, manta rays, and deep-sea anglerfish, each rendered with the original Doodle team’s characteristic charm.

The five levels take Momo through increasingly challenging ocean environments: the Coral Reef Classroom, the Kelp Forest Gymnasium, the Bioluminescent Cafeteria, the Abyssal Library, and finally the Trenches — where the final boss lurks. Symbol combinations grow longer and ghost waves grow faster as you descend deeper. The underwater palette of deep blues, teals, and bioluminescent glows makes this sequel visually distinct from the warmer autumnal tones of the original school setting.

The game was again developed by the Google Doodle team and built around Juliana Chen’s Momo character, who has since become one of Google’s most recognisable mascots. The underwater setting was chosen specifically to give the sequel a fresh identity while keeping everything fans loved about the original intact. Magic Cat Academy 2 sits comfortably between its predecessor and the 2024 space instalment as the most atmospheric entry in the trilogy.

How To Play Magic Cat Academy 2

Draw symbols matching those shown above each ghost’s head using your mouse or touchscreen. Click and drag (or swipe) to create the shape anywhere on the screen.

Basic spells include horizontal lines, vertical lines, and V shapes pointing up or down. The lightning bolt hits every ghost on screen at once — save it for busy moments when multiple enemies converge.

Keep an eye out for heart symbols to restore one of your five lives. Drawing quickly but accurately matters more than grand sweeping gestures — shorter, confident strokes register faster.

Prioritise ghosts closest to Momo. If they reach her before you draw their symbol, you lose a life. In later levels, ghosts may carry two or three symbols stacked — draw each in sequence without lifting.

The final boss requires a sustained flurry of spells across multiple phases. Stay calm, read the symbols clearly, and don’t rush — accuracy beats speed at the endgame.
