Google Thanos Snap was an interactive Easter egg that let you wipe out half of your search results with a single click. Launched in April 2019 to celebrate the release of Avengers: Endgame, it became one of Google’s most talked-about hidden features. The original effect was removed from Google Search in 2020, but you can still experience it through elgooG.
The concept was simple but brilliantly executed. Search for “Thanos” on Google and a golden Infinity Gauntlet would appear in the knowledge panel on the right side of the screen. Click it, and the gauntlet’s fingers would snap. Then the magic happened — search results started crumbling into dust and floating away, one by one, until roughly half the page had vanished. The results counter dropped in real time, showing the destruction. Sound effects and particle animations made the whole thing feel like something straight out of the movie.
What made this Easter egg so memorable was the attention to detail. The disintegration looked just like the dusting effect from Infinity War. The results that disappeared were chosen randomly each time, keeping it “fair and dispassionate” — exactly how Thanos described his universe-balancing plan. And if you wanted everything back? Click the gauntlet again. It would close into a fist and reverse the snap, bringing all the vanished results back like rewinding time with the Time Stone.
The feature went viral almost immediately. Marvel fans shared screenshots and videos across social media, and it became one of those rare moments where a search engine felt genuinely fun. Google has done plenty of Easter eggs over the years, but few captured the internet’s attention quite like this one.
How To Play Google Thanos Snap
The original Easter egg no longer works on Google Search, but elgooG has preserved it. Visit elgooG’s Thanos Snap page to access the restored version.
Once there, look for the Infinity Gauntlet image in the knowledge panel on the right side of the screen. Click or tap the gauntlet to trigger the snap. Watch as search results begin disintegrating into dust particles and floating away. About half of everything on the page will disappear.
To reverse the effect, click the gauntlet again. The snap undoes itself and all the vanished content reappears. You can repeat this as many times as you want.
The effect works on both desktop and mobile browsers. Make sure your sound is on for the full experience — the snap audio adds a lot to the moment.
