The sequel to the original Awesome Tanks, this second instalment adds more weapons, more enemies, more levels, and more explosive mayhem.
Developed by Alexander Gette, Awesome Tanks 2 perfects the formula that made the original a browser gaming classic. You control a tank navigating through enclosed arena-style levels filled with enemy tanks, turrets, mines, and destructible walls. Each level is a puzzle of destruction — figure out the best path through, eliminate all enemies, and collect the coins they drop. The twin-stick control scheme (WASD to move, mouse to aim and shoot) feels tight and responsive, giving you precise control in chaotic firefights.
The upgrade system is where the game truly shines. Between levels, you spend collected coins on new weapons and tank improvements. The weapon selection is gloriously excessive: machine guns, shotguns, railguns, flamethrowers, laser beams, homing missiles, and a minigun that turns your tank into a spinning death machine. Each weapon has unique properties — the shotgun spreads wide but lacks range, the railgun pierces through multiple enemies, and the flamethrower leaves burning patches on the ground. You can also upgrade your tank’s armour, speed, and mine resistance.
Enemy variety keeps you on your toes across the game’s 15 campaign levels. Basic tanks patrol simple paths, but soon you’ll face fast-moving scouts, heavily armoured heavies, artillery tanks that lob shells over walls, and stationary turrets that lock onto your position. Boss encounters punctuate the campaign, throwing massive multi-weapon tanks at you that require genuine strategy to defeat. The destructible environments add another layer — blasting through walls opens new paths but can also expose you to crossfire.
